Our story…

We opened The Abbey Coffee, Art and Music Lounge, at 350 Mission Street, in the Vintage Faith Church building in 2008. The vision was to create a café and space that neighbors, UCSC students, musicians, artists and those in Santa Cruz could come stay, hang out and be in a uniquely designed space and center for creative arts all while enjoying delicious coffee, tea and various food items.

Having a music background, being in bands and knowing that locations for playing are often limited, we wanted to establish a venue where local musicians could come and play in various ways and have a space to meet other musicians. We are re-establishing Open Mic Nights, Rhythm and Blues Jam Nights and scheduling performances by various musical artists and bands.

We are also a space to highlight local and student artists and provide art openings and create opportunities for artists to share their creativity with others. We are in the planning process of hosting books clubs, lectures on various topics, film nights with discussion in the future.

We really hope The Abbey is a space and community that you will enjoy and love to spend time in. I personally hope to meet you and connect with the music and arts aspect of The Abbey as well as any fun discussions on music history, arts, comic books, theology and more!
